From the opening ceremony, visitors headed onto the Keynote Theatre where Ethan Yu, VP at Alibaba Cloud, spoke to visitors about how businesses should best embrace cloud and related technologies to drive the push towards a digital-orientated Hong Kong.
The Cloud Innovations Theatre hosted an animated Women in Technology panel and brought together female leaders to discuss the changing face of technology. The Service Provider & Cloud Ecosystems conference stream, sponsored by Digital Realty, also featured insightful sessions and workshops around hybrid cloud deployments, analytics and big data, regulations and data privacy, and cloud-native design.
New for 2017, Smart IoT Hong Kong also showcased the latest from the emerging Internet of Things market, covering hot topics including AI, industrial IOT, and healthcare applications. Commenting on the event, Tang said: "We are very privileged to take part in this show and for the first time in HKCEC which is an excellent location for one of the largest cloud and IoT events in the region. Many industry professionals look forward to this event to learn about the latest developments and explore collaboration."
Microsoft also led an exciting conference stream dedicated to Big Data and Analytics, which provided audiences with key takeaways on the commercial advantages of the technology. One session, presented by Ricardo Bion, Data Science Manager at Airbnb, outlined how the home-sharing platform uses data to make decisions globally, at scale.
Speaking at the end of Day One, Event Director Chris Brown commented on the overwhelming feedback from exhibitors and delegates. "It has been an incredible first day here at the HKCEC. On the back of our successful launch in 2016, we are seeing a hugely positive response to the Cloud Expo Asia and Data Centre World event stack in North Asia. Alongside the flagship events, 2017 has welcomed the popular launch show Smart IoT, which has been particularly well received as businesses are looking to adjust to the evolving digital landscape."
Phil Nelson, commercial director and co-founder of CloserStill Media, organiser of the world’s leading cloud and data centre events commented: "We have seen our Hong Kong events grow in strength this year, not only in terms of visitor attendance, but also with the exhibitor community with many vendors already reserving their space for the 2018 events – and it's only Day One!"
Visitor Glenn Chan, Infrastructure Manager NEA at ANZ Bank, was attending the event for the second year. He commented: "This is a truly large-scale exhibition and I am greatly impressed by the conference programme, particularly in the FinTech Theatre. I found that the talks very informative. It’s great to meet all of these industry peers at one event and speak with partners to discover new IT trends."
Susan Wong, Senior Manager of IT at the Hong Kong Tourism Board, also said: "I am attending this event to learn more about Big Data and cloud security. I think that the conference programme is rich and covers a lot of diverse themes. This diversification in the exhibition also allows me to discover lots of new products and solutions – and all in the same place!"
Exhibitors reported great interest from high-quality visitors. Franky Leung, Vice President at Huayun Data International said: "It is our honour to join Cloud Expo Asia in Hong Kong, as this is such a big show with a focused industry audience.
